MADISON, Miss. – With two rounds in the books at the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Men’s Golf Championship at Annandale Golf Club, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns are firmly in the mix, sitting in a tie for fourth place at 1-over-par (577) heading into Wednesday’s final round of stroke play.

After an early weather delay forced a partial first round finish on Monday, teams returned to action Tuesday to wrap up round one and complete the second. Arkansas State continued to lead the 14-team field at 10-under, with Coastal Carolina (-6) and Georgia Southern (-4) just behind. Louisiana is tied with nationally-ranked Troy (#48), both sitting six strokes back of third place and only one shot ahead of Texas State.

Steady Cajuns Staying in Contention

Louisiana followed a solid opening-round 73 with an even better second round Tuesday, carding a 2-under team score (286) to climb the leaderboard. The Cajuns showed notable consistency across their lineup, with strong contributions from multiple golfers.

Eli Ortego continues to lead the charge for Louisiana, posting a 5-under score through 36 holes, including a 3-under second round that has him tied for the individual lead. Malan Potgieter also sits inside the top five at 3-under overall after back-to-back rounds under par. Both golfers are among the few in the field who have avoided major mistakes and consistently capitalized on scoring opportunities.

Jean Louis du Plessis (+3), Carter Schmitt (+6), and Kyle Bennett (+12) round out Louisiana’s five-man squad.

Louisiana’s Strength: The Par 5s

Statistically, Louisiana has been one of the best teams on the par 5s this week, playing them at 11-under, second only to Coastal Carolina’s blistering 19-under pace. The Cajuns have also been among the leaders in total birdies with 32, showing their ability to go low when given scoring chances.

However, the team has been hampered slightly by six double bogeys, tied for the fourth-most in the field. Tightening up on par 4s and avoiding big numbers will be key to making a move on the final day.

What's Ahead

The top four teams after the third round will advance to match play, scheduled for Thursday. With Louisiana currently sitting in a tie for the final qualifying spot, Wednesday’s third round promises to be a pressure-packed test.

Given their current form and depth at the top of the lineup, the Cajuns have every reason to believe they’ll be one of the last four standing.

First tee times for Wednesday begin at 8:00 a.m. CT. Fans can watch live coverage on ESPN+.  Geaux Cajuns!
